26.25 x 17.125 inches

Significance of Om Symbolism in this Painting

This stunning vintage painting is composed entirely of strokes of Om. The symbol of Om (ॐ), revered as the primordial sound of the universe, is ingeniously used to create the entire image of Lord Panduranga in a breathtaking display of spiritual artistry. Each curve, line, and stroke of the sacred Om is meticulously arranged to form the contours and intricate details of the Panduranga’s figure. From His iconic hands-on-hips pose to the gentle expression on His face, every aspect of Lord Panduranga’s form emerges organically from the symbol of Om.

This harmonious composition symbolizes the unity of creation and divinity, portraying Lord Panduranga as the embodiment of Om, the sound and essence of cosmic existence. The famous the Sanskrit saying: Parabrahma-lingam Bhaje Pandurangam – implies that the “We worship the eternal symbol of the Supreme Being as the form of Panduranga”.

The integration of Om into the artwork reflects the profound spiritual truth that the Lord is both immanent and transcendent, encompassing the entirety of the universe while remaining accessible to the devotee’s heart. This unique representation not only brings out the artistic brilliance of the design but also serves as a meditative piece, inviting the observer to experience the profound connection between the eternal sound of Om and the divine form of Panduranga.

About the Serigraph Printing Process

Serigraph printing is a meticulous and highly artistic process used to create vibrant, one-of-a-kind fine art prints. Each serigraph is crafted by hand, with individual layers of paint carefully applied through stencils on a screen, resulting in rich colours and precise details.

The Krishna Panduranga art is enhanced with exquisite gold-leaf detailing, which adds depth, texture, and a touch of brilliance to the final artwork. The creation of this piece involves a multi-step process. First, glue is applied through the serigraph technique, followed by the application of gold leaf. The excess gold leaf is then manually removed, leaving behind intricate details where the glue was applied. Next, a layer of blue paint is added, and finally, a striking red layer is applied to highlight the third eye of Lord Panduranga.

This unique layering process ensures that no two prints are exactly alike. Celebrated for its attention to detail and the artistry involved, this traditional printing method results in collectible artworks that capture the artist’s vision with exceptional depth and vibrancy, for a finished piece with timeless beauty.

About Lord Panduranga

Lord Panduranga, also known as Vitthala or Vithoba, is a beloved deity in the devotional tradition of India, predominantly adorable in Maharashtra and Karnataka. An older form of Lord Vasudeva Krishna, Panduranga is revered for His unique form and profound spiritual symbolism. Standing with arms akimbo on His waist, He represents divine patience, humility, and unconditional love for His devotees. The principal shrine dedicated to Him in Pandharpur, a town on the banks of the Chandrabhaga River, is a hub for pilgrimages and a source of spiritual inspiration.

Lord Vasudeva Krishna was born on 25 May 11153 BCE whereas Sri Krishna of the Mahabharata era lived from 3223 to 3126 BCE. The special teaching imparted by Sage (Rishi) Ghora Āṅgirasa to his disciple Devakiputra Vāsudeva Krishna is referenced in Chāndogya Upanishad chapter 3.17, verse 6, mentioning both of their names.  The same sage is credited as the author one mantra in Rigveda Mandala 3.36, verse 10. Both Rishi and his disciple, Devakiputra Krishna flourished during the Rigvedic era, specifically during the period from 11153 BCE onward for about a hundred years. On the other hand, Sri Krishna of the Mahābhārata era, a disciple of Sāndipani, lived during the period 3223-3126 BCE.

According to tradition, the story of Lord Panduranga is intertwined with that of Pundalik, a devoted son whose selfless service to his parents exemplified the highest ideal of devotion. Pleased with Pundalik’s unwavering dedication, Lord Vasudeva Krishna is believed to have appeared in Pandharpur and stood upon a platform offered by Pundalik. This iconic pose, with the Lord waiting for His devotee, underscores His compassion and accessibility, making Him a relatable and cherished figure in Indic spirituality.
